Everyone keeps asking for a baby update, so here goes.
I'm about 5 1/2 months along now. A couple of weeks ago, my tummy had a growth spurt and went from being vaguely roundish to roughly dumpling shaped. I am now a walking impersonation of a pot-sticker. :-)
"What's that?"
"Melinda's new computer."
"Where's the rest of it?"
"That's it."
"But it's so small!"
"It's probably 5 times faster that what she has under her desk now."
"Really!?"
"Yep. It's faster than your computer too."
Look at what some deliquent vandals did to my poor friend Chezza's car while it was parked right out in front of my house all weekend. Tsk tsk tsk. Kids today... You know, I blame it on parental upbringing, I really do. Oh, would that I had caught the punks responsible! What a travesty!
Shawn just read on Muppet Central that Fraggle Rock Season 2 is due out in September. Good news indeed, and listed in the extras for this season is "A sneak-peak of the Fraggle Film in development." Remember a few months back when I mentioned the possibility of a Fraggle movie?
Well, Netflix got a functional copy of "Almost Famous" out to us lickety-split, so I guess they're link-worthy again.
Both Shawn and I really enjoyed the film. This will sound ironic if you've already seen it, but it has a "real" feeling about it. It's worth a rent, particularly if you're a fan of that era of rock music (early-ish 70s). Killer soundtrack too. The baby kicked along to most the tunes. I guess the baby's a Led Zeppelin fan. My cousin Rachel will be so proud.

Shawn and I are taking a little vacation in Bodega Bay this weekend. He got us a room at The Inn at the Tides, a very nice little place. Incidentally, Hitchcock filmed The Birds here, so there are lots of photos of Tippi Hedren all over the place. We meant to re-watch the movie before we got here, but didn't get around to it. Needless to say, all the birds we've met so far have been polite and aloof.
So we're through another election and almost nothing I voted for passed (libraries and schools, folks; this is a no brainer), and network neutrality took a hit in House. Sigh. At least I can say I did my civic duty and thus preserved my right to bitch.
And speaking of laws and rules, can we switch to a horse of a slightly different color and talk about stupid P.C. sports rules for a minute?
Thursday was a busy day for me. I had a field survey starting at 5:30 am on Friday and was leaving straight there for a trip to Santa Cruz for my brother's graduation party, so I had a lot to do. I had so much to do, in fact, that I didn't get my survey prep done before I had to leave for my ballet class that evening. I almost skipped class just to get it done. The idea of having to go back to work after class before I could go home and get ready for the weekend adventure was not appealing to me. I grumbled about it for awhile before I finally decided to suck it up and go to my class.
So I was bopping around on the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest website and came across an interesting image. Disneyland fans, take a peek at this and tell me if you see anything familiar?
