Time Change

March 14, 2016 - 4:43pm -- swingbug

I had a somewhat anachronistic weekend. Saturday I went to Sac ComicCon. I'd never been to a con before, though I had always kind of wanted to. This one was small, nearby, and inexpensive, so on more-or-less a whim, we bought tickets and gave it a whirl. They had the sorts of things that you would expect to see, presuming anybody ever truly expects to see two guys battling it out in full plate armor made from flattened mountain dew cans and duct tape.

Time Bandits

March 11, 2013 - 7:34pm -- swingbug

The first Monday after the end of daylights saving time always kills me.

I'm not a morning person; this we know. You go ahead and get the worm. I'd rather sleep another two hours and have a muffin anyway. But to be back to waking up in pre-dawn hours is just too rude for words. It's hard enough for me to match my clothes with some daylight to aid me, you know?

I love the long afternoons though.

Five by Five

Dear Professor's Cube,

This ass-kicking has been brought to you courtesy of Shannon DeArmond.

Most sincerely,

S.D.

P.S.

I rock.

Roll On

February 7, 2012 - 7:32pm -- swingbug

On my way home from work I popped into the comic book store. I headed over to the Dark Horse rack to see if there was anything new in any of my favorites. (Of course I knew there wasn't; I'm on three different mailing lists that would have alerted me if a new Umbrella Academy was on the way, but a girl can dream.)

The Toaster Flies at Midnight

I crashed my head down on my desk.

“Having problems with that export code?”

“It’s driving me insane. Is that a problem?”

“Well, don’t work too long on it. Go home. Go to sleep. It will come to you in a dream. You’ll wake up in the middle of the night with the answer.”

“I hate that. I end up dreaming about trying to program the toaster.”

Moral Outrage

August 4, 2009 - 2:06pm -- swingbug

Totally moral outrage!  Infamy, heresy, and blasphemy! The world has gone insane and I'm surrounded by heathens. How and when did this happen?

I was having a perfectly normal sci-fi conversation with a friend – who shall remain nameless – when this friend, whom I generally consider to be intelligent and well-informed, had the gaul to say that Firefly creator Joss Whedon "pioneered the whole cowboys in outer space thing."

Dude. This is someone I know. How is that possible?

Geekier Addendum

July 28, 2009 - 10:51am -- swingbug

I don’t really do the con scene. As much as I’d like to, I haven’t figured out a way to fit it into my schedule or pocketbook. I do watch a friend prep for DragonCon every year and drool over her costume proceedings. (I don’t think she’s posted any pictures of her costumes – dude, get on it – but you’ll have to trust me that her Rockford Peach costume is one of my favorites of all time.)

Geekier and Geekier

July 22, 2009 - 8:39pm -- swingbug

I just discovered something about myself that I didn’t know. I like comic books. Who knew? It took me thirty-one years to get around to cracking one open and giving it a whirl.

I was expounding on this new revelation to a friend over lunch today. She leaned across the table. “You just keep getting geekier, don’t you?”

Takes one to know one, love. And she’s a Class 1 Neek, so she’d really know.
