The Waiting Game

August 21, 2006 - 12:00am -- swingbug

Lots of traveling lately. I had a business trip to Texas two weeks ago that was about as miserable as I expected and a vacation trip to Disneyland with a few girlfriends last week, which was as fun as I expected. As great as adventuring can be, it's nice to finally have my feet back on the ground. With 7 weeks to go, I'm ready to be home in my nest, expectantly peering into the sky for the first signs of Mr. Stork.

Bug in Space

I'm returning from a brief business trip to lovely El Paso, Texas, where I experienced what I'm told was a hundred year flood event. My hotel was without internet and, indeed, without telephones throughout the duration of my stay.

I saw the Rio Grande with water in it. I'm told this is a rare experience.

Now I'm parked in yet another gate in yet another airport for yet another layover. The sunny, dry Phoenix airport has free wireless internet and I feel as though I am slowly reconnecting to the world.

Random thoughts from space:

The Case for Local Theatre

July 28, 2006 - 12:00am -- swingbug

Theatre is becoming a better and better deal as far as entertainment goes. Have you noticed?

Sure your San Francisco Ballet tickets aren't getting any cheaper and if you're planning to head out to the city to catch Rent this fall, I'm sure you'll pay handsomely for those tickets. But I'm talking about local theatre, and we've got a fair amount of it around here.

Ready, Set, Go

This past weekend I got The Crow ready for press, organized the office, and cleaned out a room for the baby (a feat of fairly large proportions that I've been procrastinating for months). I also scrubbed the stove, got a new microwave installed (to be fair, the appliance delivery guy did the installing), cleaned the house, and sewed a shirt. Somehow in there I also attended a party, had dinner with friends, and on Sunday night dressed up like a pirate and goofed off with my friends before seeing the Pirates of the Caribbean sequel.

Independence

July 7, 2006 - 12:00am -- swingbug

So here we are, just past another 4th of July. I did the family bbq thing, like so many of us do. I skipped out of the fireworks as I have for a few years now, I suppose in silent protest for the state of the union.

Go Outside

July 6, 2006 - 12:00am -- swingbug

It's beautiful outside. It really is. If you live 'round about me and you don't have to be at work right now like I do, shut your computer off and venture out of doors. It's the perfect temperature, which on Planet Shannon is about 80 degrees. Just warm enough so that you can wear a light sweater and not be hot, or wear just a t-shirt and not be cold. There's a light breeze that's just a few degrees cooler. When you step into the sunshine you can feel it soaking into your skin. It's just lovely.

Eight Reasons Why...

June 30, 2006 - 12:00am -- swingbug

Eight Reason Why a Pregnant Woman is Like a Hobbit:

  1. Breakfast
  2. Second Breakfast
  3. Elevensies
  4. Luncheon
  5. Afternoon Tea
  6. Dinner
  7. Supper
  8. Midnight Snack (I feel confident that Pippin would have added this to the list if he hadn't been so distressed.)
