Forward March

June 27, 2007 - 1:59pm -- swingbug

I try not to forward pointless crap to people I like. I know it can be vexing to many people with busy jobs to sort through all that forward-this-on-to-6-people-in-the-next-6-minutes-or-your-cat-will-get-small-pox rubbish. Nonetheless, I occasionally come across some real gems and this one legitimately made me laugh. Rather than plague your inbox, I’ll just post it here. I figure if you’re goofing off reading my blog at work then you are looking for a waste of time and so it’s not my problem.

I Blame the Fish People

June 18, 2007 - 8:12am -- swingbug

Shawn and I went out on a date yesterday to see Pirates III. I had resolved not to see this one until I had gotten some positive feedback, as I was utterly disappointed in the second. Many people have tried to tell me that one cannot judge the quality of a sequel based on the first movie in a series. Bullocks. A sequel, by definition, is a continuation of a story.

Status Update

June 17, 2007 - 10:10pm -- swingbug

Luke is now 8 months old, with 7 teeth and just enough wisps on his head to get nap hair. He is crawling with speed and determination. Shawn and I are on the look out for recognizable words. Luke is on the look out for trouble – anything he can get into that’s less than two feet off the ground is eligible. He is fascinated with buttons and levers and noses. Balls and balloons are the best thing ever. He’s developed a discerning palette and is instantly suspicious of green food.

Perfect Afternoon

June 15, 2007 - 3:07pm -- swingbug

Today Luke and I went for our walk. It was 85º, clear skies and breezy. Kids were playing at the playground, digging in the sand in the shady parts under the slides to get out of the heat. The perfect summer afternoon...Except it was 9:00 a.m. in the morning! Anyone know when this heat wave is due to end?

I consider myself a reasonable woman under most circumstances.

Everyone has limits, however.

June?

June 3, 2007 - 9:41pm -- swingbug

I’m coming out of a bit of fog. The first weekend in June was the annual student recital at my dance studio. Months of rehearsing choreography and stitching up costumes, a full week of tech, blocking, and dress rehearsals, and then in 3 days, it’s over, just like that. I have pictures, but I haven’t posted them yet.

Tadpole

May 20, 2007 - 10:09pm -- swingbug

When you were a tadpole and I was fish
And the whole world had barely begun
I saw you swim by with a smile in your eye
And I loved you from that moment on

Saturday night. Luke is cradled in my arms as we pace around a gazebo. He’s tired. Across the garden, light spills from the windows with the muffled sound of music and chatter. Silhouettes of waltzing couples dance across the windows.

Stage Presence

May 7, 2007 - 9:29am -- swingbug

Saturday night was not your average night at the ballet.

I’ve always enjoyed going to the ballet, but since I began studying it myself five years ago, I’ve been making a concerted effort to get out to San Francisco at least once a season. I’ve been chipping away at the classics that I haven’t seen and this past Saturday found me at the War Memorial Opera House waiting for the curtain to come up on Don Quixote.

Ummm...

May 1, 2007 - 10:08am -- swingbug

My husband and I were standing in the kitchen having a discussion of relative importance. The baby was settled on Shawn’s hip, peacefully watching us bat the conversation back and forth for the moment. At length, he pulled his binky out of his mouth and tossed it on the floor. Still illustrating my point, I scooped up the binky, ran it under the faucet and washed it clean, all without even really realizing I was doing it.

I turned around, concluding my argument and holding out the binky in front of his mouth.

Saucer

April 26, 2007 - 10:05pm -- swingbug

I have three tea sets. My nicest set was recently passed on to me by my mother and was originally my Grandma Beth’s. It’s a Royal Albert set of bone china. Quite proper and very beautiful. A few years ago, my mother-in-law gifted me with a set from her family: a rather large and charming casual set of blue stoneware, plump and portly. They feel good in your hands. I frequently pull them out when I have company.
