Dodging Traffic

February 22, 2010 - 10:38pm -- swingbug

Do you ever feel like you’re ducking lightening bolts, hopping from one scorched spot of earth to another just ahead of the next blast? Like maybe some lesser god has it out for you in some idle, lackadaisical kind of way?

Perhaps I’m being melodramatic. Maybe it’s more like a cosmic game of frogger and I’m the one in the webbed feet dodging traffic.

It’s not just me. It’s going around. I have at least three other close friends who were hit with major career decisions in the last week. Moments of truth. Two-roads-diverged-in-a-yellow-wood kind of deals.

Life on Mars

T-minus ten days until Christmas. We sloshed through rain and mud yesterday to acquire a Christmas tree. I’m dreaming of a wet Christmas. Luke and I decorated the tree last night while Shawn and Ana made tacos. It smells like home.

Force to be Reckoned With

I’m about ready to re-enter the work force, I think. I’ve been pretty lucky with the contract work coming in at the right times to help keep us in cookies and oatmeal around here, but now it’s about time I dip my toes back into the ever-flowing river that is productive society.

Cat and Mouse

June 22, 2009 - 9:36pm -- swingbug

One of my clients has the most beautiful cat I’ve ever seen. While I sit in the desk chair running Disk Warrior on a stubborn drive, she stands sentry, peering at me around the side of a stack of papers on the floor, not drawing close enough to touch, but always near enough to make sure I’m not messing with her stuff.

Resurfacing

Been missing in action for a bit. It’s not that I don’t love you; it’s just that I don’t have time for you.

Noted.

I found the sweater. Pants are still AWOL. On the other hand, I have two friends who have lost car bumpers this week, so it could be worse.

Also, I found a new ball of yarn for my stash. It’s funny, but don’t habitual drug users employ the word “stash” as well?

Maybe it’s not that funny.

The Starting Line

March 20, 2009 - 5:08pm -- swingbug

So Happy Friday. What a week, huh?

I started a new work project on Monday, the first step of which is gathering information from various local governments. Lots of phone calls and emails. Responses vary from, “Sure, have my data. Would you like a sandwich with that?” to “It’s a violation of national security for you to even be asking and operatives from Washington are bugging your house as we speak.” This is for the same data set, mind you. The Public Information Act meets Homeland Security, ladies and gentlemen. Please hold your applause.
