Resurfacing

Been missing in action for a bit. It’s not that I don’t love you; it’s just that I don’t have time for you.

I finished a massive month long work project yesterday morning. In the final crunch week to get everything done, I neglected everything down to personal grooming and housework. My harried guest appearances at the Starbucks down the road went from occasional customer to twitchy caffeine addict. I am now drowning in laundry and email. If you’ve called or written in the last week and I haven’t responded, please don’t take offense. I cut off all communication with anyone who wasn’t expecting money or data from me and now have dozens of messages in my inbox that I haven’t even read yet, let alone responded to.

At 9:50 a.m. yesterday morning, I finished my project. At 10:00 a.m., I turned to yet another pressing case of unfinished business. I sat on the couch with a cup a tea in the wreck that is my living room and pushed play on the last episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (Emailers and phone callers, you now know where you rank the grand scheme of things. Sorry.)

With Sunnydale taken care of and my professional obligations fulfilled, I’m lifting my head up and looking around.

So where are we at, then? There’s a ballot full of poorly written propositions to dig through, we’re all going to die from swine flu, and I’m turning 31 this week. Bugger that; I’m going back to Sunnydale.

And can I just comment on the swine flu thing for sec? Chill the frack out. It’s a flu bug. Dude. Tens of thousands of people die from the flu every year in this county. Someone gives this one a name and everyone freaks out. Calm down and stop looking around your community for folks to cast in Outbreak 2, okay? If you’re sick, stay home. If you’re really sick, call your doctor. Wash your hands every now and again, and cover the relevant facial orifices when you feel the need to sneeze or cough. These are not emergency procedures. It’s common courtesy and general human health and safety. Like every day, and stuff. Geez, people.

Meanwhile, I’ve got bills to pay, a house to clean, and an age fairy to hunt down and smite, to say nothing of the several skeins of yarn sitting here just waiting to be cast on (stay tuned for the Evil Stepmother socks, muh-ha-ha-ha...)

Life runs on. Better catch it.
