Audrey 2

July 1, 2009 - 1:32pm -- swingbug

I love artichokes. We planted two in the great garden escapade of 2009. One produced a flower. It was hard to resist eating such a beautiful blossom, but they’re commonly 4 for $4 at the grocery store and never to seen at the florist.

If I had a garden in my summer home on Planet Kuzbane, the path would be lined with these.

Communication

June 23, 2009 - 5:25pm -- swingbug

I’ve had my iPhone for less than a week and its already vastly changed the way I use my computer. Funny that. Historically, the first thing I would do when I came into the house would be head to my laptop and see what’s up. Email, RSS, Ravelry account, blog comments if applicable.

Cat and Mouse

June 22, 2009 - 9:36pm -- swingbug

One of my clients has the most beautiful cat I’ve ever seen. While I sit in the desk chair running Disk Warrior on a stubborn drive, she stands sentry, peering at me around the side of a stack of papers on the floor, not drawing close enough to touch, but always near enough to make sure I’m not messing with her stuff.

Grumble Grumble

June 22, 2009 - 8:28pm -- swingbug

I bought a new plant for my porch garden yesterday. A verbena. The tag used words like “impervious” and “hardy.” I like seeing these words. Not so much as I like seeing the words “invincible” or “indestructible” or “Shannon, you can’t possibly kill this plant because if you forget to water it, it will wander into your bedroom on its stubbly little dried up roots, tap you with a wilted leaf and say, ‘Hey dude, where’s my hose?’”

But “impervious” will do.

New Kind of Trek

June 18, 2009 - 9:30am -- swingbug

I’ve been wanting to blog about the new Star Trek movie and share all I have to say about it, which is a considerable amount. But I don’t know how to even broach my feelings on the subject without posting massive spoilers, and even though I could preface my blog with disclaimers and launch forth (or shall I say “engage”?), I hate exposing plots online.

Dusk

June 15, 2009 - 9:17pm -- swingbug

The sudden cancelation of one of my dance classes found me in downtown Davis past eight o’clock on Monday night. Davis is surprisingly jumping for the beginning of the week in what should be the dead zone past graduation and before the start of the fall term in a university town. I pass gaggles of girls in high heels crossing downtown streets and have to shake my head and wonder what planet I’m from that this seems strange, when me and my sneaker clad feet are so clearly in the minority.

Back to the Barre

June 4, 2009 - 3:14pm -- swingbug

The performance went well. It was fun, even. Yes, I have photos. No, I’m not ready to post them yet. (Shawn took over 2000 at dress rehearsal, so we’re still picking through them in a big way.)

A flu bug ripped through the cast, as per usual. It was running rampant at home as well. Luke got it Thursday night with a stunning display of gestational pyrotechnics, but was pretty much whole and happy by Saturday night when I left for my first performance. Thank the dancing gods, I didn’t catch it until Sunday night, many hours after the curtains were closed and we’d all gone home.
