And I Will Use Your Family Vacation Photos to Destroy the World...

February 16, 2009 - 6:08pm -- swingbug

As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t do Facebook. I don’t have anything particularly against it either, but this caught my attention and I thought you might like to know. Folks in a rush frequently click right through those user agreements and terms of service pages. (Guilty, right here.) Still, it’s good to know when you’re giving away any rights you might ever have to your family vacation photos, or worse.

Digital Pursuits

I don’t do Facebook. Don’t do My Space either. I don’t twitter, never digg, haven’t farked in ages, and I’m not linked in. Just not my deal. I ravel– that’s for sure – and I blog. I follow one or two online zines. I’ve got half a dozen blogs I read regularly and another half a dozen podcasts. That’s enough, really. How much time am I supposed to spend with you out here in the wilds of the internet, anyway? I do have a biological self to maintain.

You’re a Genius

September 22, 2008 - 2:09pm -- swingbug

iTunes introduced this new “genius” feature in its latest incarnation. The idea is that you feed it a song and it makes you a playlist to match.

I tend not to like products that label themselves as “genius” or other superior adjectives. My feeling is that if you have to say it yourself then it’s probably not true. Like fancy ketchup. Make your product and let the New York Times write the review, huh?

Monkey Wrench

September 8, 2008 - 9:27pm -- swingbug

Recently, while out on an IT call, my client begins to tease me for talking to myself.

“I’m not talking to myself; I’m talking to your computer.”

He laughs.  “And is it talking back?”

“We’re effectively communicating, thank you.”  Privately, I’m thinking, It’s you the computer’s got issues with, not me.  We’re cool.

Coincidence

P.S. Mac users, check out the Wimic dashboard widget for all your favorite comics. It’s a great waste of what could otherwise be productive work time. . . in a coffeehouse or otherwise.

Twiddle Twiddle Bing

TWIDDLE TWIDDLE BING!

I know that sound.

TWIDDLE TWIDDLE BING!

My cell phone must have a low battery. I locate the phone and flip it open. Nope. As Mr. Poe might have said, silence there and nothing more. I hand the phone to the baby.

Forward March

June 27, 2007 - 1:59pm -- swingbug

I try not to forward pointless crap to people I like. I know it can be vexing to many people with busy jobs to sort through all that forward-this-on-to-6-people-in-the-next-6-minutes-or-your-cat-will-get-small-pox rubbish. Nonetheless, I occasionally come across some real gems and this one legitimately made me laugh. Rather than plague your inbox, I’ll just post it here. I figure if you’re goofing off reading my blog at work then you are looking for a waste of time and so it’s not my problem.

Commercial Endorsement

April 17, 2007 - 10:05am -- swingbug

We interrupt this blog for a commercial advertisement.

I know a lot of people in the web and/or graphic design industries: my husband, my sister and her husband, my mother, and at least a half a dozen friends (a special shout out to my super helpful and talented friend Ian). I’ve been known to dip a toe in that business myself from time to time.
