Week’s End

June 17, 2010 - 4:56pm -- swingbug

Checking in with the morning report. Except it’s not morning, but you get the drift.

This was a crazy busy week at work. Bundle that with a lack of ballet classes. I could have found alternative forms of exercise, but instead I sat at home nights and ate ice cream. Like my logic there? Dubliner Mudslide by Ben and Jerry’s has my stamp of approval, FYI.

I would like my reading audience to know that I fully accept all credit for the weather finally turning reasonably warm. I just made a pair of wool socks and I’m finishing up a sweater, you see.

And Extra Onions

May 28, 2010 - 4:56pm -- swingbug

A (... uh... well... let's call it a) scheduling issue had me so angry last night, it was leaking out of my eyes.  It was no one's fault, I reminded myself.  Not really.  Some advanced notice might have been preferable.  I talked it over with someone calmer and more rational than myself, decided on a proper course of action, and that's that, right?

I’m finally done with the rain. The depression from the weather hit me later than most, I think, but today the sadness of the swamps sank in.

Another dreary morning at the office. I like the work and I like the folks but for various reasons, it’s a bleak place right now and by 9:30, I want close my eyes and be away. Next best thing: I jack one side of my headphones into my iPhone and the other half into my head and let genius spin my morning.

We found the ground,
but that damage was done.
It's cold as you fade into the sun.

And All That Jazz

February 24, 2009 - 9:45pm -- swingbug

It was late last night when a friend reminded me of today’s impending holiday. It’s Fat Tuesday – Mardi Gras. Almost missed it entirely. Not that it’s a real big holiday around this house. I don’t really go in for Lent so the idea of spending the eve before getting rid of the butter and yummy things in the house is just an excuse to have pancakes around here.

Physics for Two

January 30, 2009 - 8:56am -- swingbug

I believe I’ve mention This Week in Science here before. It’s a science program on the local, free format radio station at the college, also available by podcast. One of the things I like about the show, aside from making me laugh and keeping me informed on world robot domination, is that the music they open and close the show with is exclusively music from small bands on science themes. They put out a CD once a year during fundraiser time, and I always buy it.

Traveling at 6 mph

October 12, 2008 - 3:52pm -- swingbug

While en route to my sister’s house I got caught in the traffic puddle that is Berkeley. Oop, here’s University Avenue. Everybody slam on your brakes and look around. You might see a hippie.

Stuttering along in stop and go traffic makes the mind wander. You’re not traveling physically so you may as well take a mind trip. While looking out at the sloshing bay and regretting the 20 ounce cup of tea I downed on the way, my mind bounced around all over the place. Here’s where it took me.

You’re a Genius

September 22, 2008 - 2:09pm -- swingbug

iTunes introduced this new “genius” feature in its latest incarnation. The idea is that you feed it a song and it makes you a playlist to match.

I tend not to like products that label themselves as “genius” or other superior adjectives. My feeling is that if you have to say it yourself then it’s probably not true. Like fancy ketchup. Make your product and let the New York Times write the review, huh?

A Long December

October 6, 2006 - 12:00am -- swingbug

A long December and there's reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last
I can't remember the last thing that you said as you were leaving
Oh the days go by so fast

Hail Hail Rock and Roll

April 29, 2006 - 12:00am -- swingbug

It's amazing what an effect music can have on you. My work place has been a pretty negative space lately. Due to recent events that are neither appropriate for me to disclose nor necessary for you to hear about, the last thing I wanted to do was walk through that door this morning. Not unless I was armed with a baseball bat and could use a few specific people for batting practice. (I consider myself a pacifist but that doesn't mean I'm not occasionally tempted.)

Funny People are Cool

June 24, 2005 - 12:00am -- swingbug

I bought a CD this week that was recommended on the webpage of a band that I'd heard and liked at Dickens Fair. (Ah, the internet... Entwining our lives and providing me with lots of stuff I don't need to spend money on... Huzzah!) Anyway, I bought the CD from a little online music store called CD Baby that sells a lot of independant labels.

My confirmation of shipping email arrived on Tuesday:
