Pumpkin

October 4, 2007 - 10:48pm -- swingbug

Shawn came home today with a bag full of groceries. “Look what I got,” he said, excitedly producing a smallish pumpkin from the brown paper sack. “What shall we do with it?”

I picked up the pumpkin and turned it around in my hands. Enjoying the weight and feel of October. Slowly I rotated it, looking for a good spot for a nose, or a bump that is screaming to be an eyebrow. Was it a happy pumpkin or a scary pumpkin?

I turned around to find Shawn looking up “pumpkin” in the index of a cookbook.

Oh well. Opposites attract, I guess.

Almost

It's almost fall. Did you notice? I caught it yesterday morning. A slight change in the angle of the light and the crispness of the air. Just a hint, a taste. But enough so that I caught it as I trudged out to my car in a sleepy stupor with my car keys in one hand and my lunch box in the other. It's made me think of Halloween. Of apple cider, and mud on my shoes as I tromp through the pumpkin patch looking for the perfect pumpkins, and the smell of dry crunched-up leaves. Good stuff.

The Halloween Report

November 4, 2005 - 12:00am -- swingbug

I had a 4 day celebration for Halloween this year. Here's the recap.

Jenny's Pumpkin Carving Party
Every year my friend and neighbor Jenny throws a pumpkin carving party. Not only does she throw a good party but it's a great opportunity to do the pumpkin mess in someone else's house. And Cheryl came up for the party which was awesome. Being the studious grad student that she is, I don't get to see enough of her. A wonderful kick-off to the weekend. And may I just say that Jenny makes the best clam dip ever?

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween Everybody!

I'd love to write lots today, it being my favorite day of the year, but as it is, I'm a busy girl and thar be a pirate ship awaitin' on me to sail into All Hallows Eve!

I'll write reviews of the holiday and all its wondrous festivities later. Until then, may you be blessed with flights of fancy and stalked by creatures of your own imagination. Be merry, be safe, be mischievous.

A Stitch in Time

October 27, 2005 - 12:00am -- swingbug

Welcome to sewing circle.

"Well, the hem needs to be raised. That's for sure."
"We could do a jagged cut around the bottom but I don't think it's the right fabric for that."
"Or the right cut."
"Right."
"We could cut it on a slant so it comes up higher on one side."
"Maybe."

Sounds normal enough, doesn't it? Keep listening.
