Book 7

February 1, 2007 - 10:26am -- swingbug

Yes, I saw it. You can now pre-order Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on Amazon.com. Look I railed about this last time and see no real reason to repeat myself. I’ll simply state that any friend of mine who orders their copy of Harry Potter Book 7 from Amazon is disowned.

Go support your local bookstore. Don’t tell me you can’t afford it. If you can afford to buy a book the instant it becomes available in hardback, then you can shell out an extra $10 to buy it from a real bookstore.

A Linky Post

June 20, 2006 - 12:00am -- swingbug

Here's a few disjointed thoughts for the day...

For anyone interested in my vacation photos or a shot of my pregnant belly, I posted some snapshots of our trip to Bodega Bay on my photos page.

And Another One Bites the Dust

April 19, 2006 - 12:00am -- swingbug

I just received an email from The Next Chapter, our only local independent bookstore in Woodland. The owners are giving up the fight and looking to sell. If a buyer can't be found they'll be liquidating and shutting down. I've copied the email below. Bless their hearts, in their farewell email they mentioned the new release of volume 3 of The Crow.

Terry Pratchett is Rad, and Other Random Thoughts

September 15, 2005 - 12:00am -- swingbug

On Tuesday I was having a tough day. I had finished a rough day at work and I had an hour break before I headed to what I knew was going to be a rough ballet class. And I had forgotten my book. Crap. I generally keep books tucked all over the place, anywhere I might need one. Apparently the books that had been posted to The Car and The Ballet Bag were good enough to be promoted to house books and their positions had not yet been filled. This happens frequently. I'm too good at walking and reading at the same time.

Harry Potter and the Disappearing Bookstore

July 11, 2005 - 12:00am -- swingbug

Alright, people. I know that Harry Potter is coming out on Saturday and everyone's excited. I'm excited too. I've got my copy pre-ordered and I'm picking it up at midnight on Friday, in costume no-less. So yes, I'm excited.

"You're picking it up at midnight," you ask? "Gee, Shannon, you don't live next to Amazon's distribution site, do you?"

No. I don't. Now is your cue to say something like, "Wow, I didn't know that Walmart and Costco were open that late!"

Does anybody shop at bookstores anymore?!?!?

"But, Shannon, it's just so much cheaper."

Pulp Fiction

February 28, 2005 - 12:00am -- swingbug

So if I haven't mentioned it before -- unlikely -- I'm a bit of a fiction fan. I could build a new bookcase out of the paper backs that are lying around my bedroom waiting to be read. I'm not a big fan of hard covers though. I never have been. Sure, they look nice, but they're cumbersome to carry around and they certainly won't fit in a pocket.
