The US Olympic committee has now issued two formal apologies to the Ravelry community. One for their original inflammatory accusations and a second to apologize for their apology in which they invited knitters to make them free stuff. This, I think, proves that it is unwise to piss off two million people holding sharp sticks.
An open letter to the U.S. Olympic Committee:
As an American and a knitter, I want to personally thank you for making our country look like morons on the world stage. As if our general approach to foreign policy wasn't enough. Thanks. We really needed that P.R.

I picked up the junior version of Apples to Apples over the weekend, which was an instant hit with my kid. He needs help with the occasional word but for the most part it's a great game for small fry. We don't quite have enough people in the house for a good rousing game, so a stuffed rabbit sits in as our fourth, and wins the hand more often than you'd expect.
I believe I've mentioned that I built my shiny new site here with Drupal. And since Drupal has freed me from the necessity of hacking iWeb's xml ever again in my life (hooray!), I feel honor bound to mention that Drupal Camp Sacramento is coming up in a couple of weeks. Like Drupal, it's free, and if you're into web development, you can learn cool stuff there. Even non-Drupal specific stuff.
Man oh man, did I ever need to get out of town. Last week was fairly nuts. Or the last few weeks... months. I don't think either my husband or I realized how much we needed to get the hell out of dodge until we woke up in a guest bed Saturday morning.
So yesterday was my birthday. That means I've made thirty-four trips around the sun and I'm starting on another. And I totally planned on blogging yesterday to share it with you. Really, I did. I had the blog half written in the scratch workspace that is my brain.
I was going to blog a little about being older, about how that's okay, about how my thirties are pretty awesome thus far.
But mostly I was going to talk about simplicity. About how I don't want for much in this life as it is.
One of the folks I follow in the blogosphere has been on a year-long quest to thin-out the stuff pile. Starting in January, every day she's been getting rid of a little something that she doesn't need hanging about anymore. 365 less things in the stuff pile at the end of the year. I can dig that. I don't quite have Katy's dedication, but I admire the impulse.
Bet you guys think I've forgot about you. I've barely been blogging lately. The truth is I've been working on my blog like crazy. Just not so you'd notice. Until today.
