Party for a Good Cause

January 14, 2018 - 10:41pm -- swingbug

Alright calling on my Woodland-area friends. There's a big Mardi Gras party coming up in town on Saturday, February 10th that's a benefit for local homelessness programs. It's going to be a good party: jazz music, dancing, and a Mardi Gras parade. Red beans, rice, and andouille sausage. Pancake races and games. And yours truly and my very awesome friend Cheryl will be teaching swing dancing lessons at the party.

Trad Music Nightly

January 11, 2017 - 7:54pm -- swingbug

I'm fond of the new Irish pub to which I can walk from my house. I owe them quite a bit, actually, and not the bar-tab kind of way.

Father Paddy's Public House popped into existence in Woodland last year and brought to us the things that I would consider a prerequisite for such an establishment, such as decent beer on tap and fine plate of fish and chips, but also something I hadn't thought to expect. Live local music. Specifically live local Irish music, which I didn't even know we had around here.

Sinkhole

April 23, 2011 - 1:47pm -- swingbug

A sinkhole opened up in my neighborhoodthis week. No joke. Right across the street from the park. It started as a underground pipe with a crack in it. Water flows down-gradient, as my soil science professors in college were so fond of chanting. The groundwater found the pipe and the soil stuck with the water. Erosion through the layers and before you know it, there's a frog on the bump on the log in the middle of the sea.

Or a hole in the middle of the street anyway.
