Pumpkinpalooza

Pile of Pumpkins

I think I've expressed that I'm enamored with pumpkins. I love carving them, I love eating them, I love watching them spread out over a summer garden and attempt to take over the world. I have opinions on varieties and I've gathered a fair amount of recipes. I'm now going to impart this knowledge to you so current and future generations have this little bit of amassed wisdom, such as it is, at their fingertips.

Taj Mahal

There is now an Indian restaurant in Woodland, and I’m holding you all personally responsible if this place goes out of business. So far as I know this is the only good cup of chai in a 10 mile radius of my house. Don’t blow this for me.

Some Days

I would like you to meet my lunch. Leftover tortellini, fresh figs from my garden, a chunk of feta cheese, for no other reason than because I wanted it, and iced tea just the way I like it: half mint, half black, no sugar.

Some days life is hard. Some times are frustrating. Maybe most times.

But some days there are roses in the kitchen. Some days there is a cold coke in a glass bottle in fridge and a good episode of Star Trek in the DVD player. Sometimes, when you’re driving to the grocery store, a Stray Cats song comes on the radio.

Pizza Puzzle

April 13, 2007 - 12:00pm -- swingbug

The following conversation took place at 6:35 p.m. pacific daylight time and has been recorded for posterity as yet another example of the general absurdity of American culture.

“Thank you for calling Pizza Guys. Take out or delivery?”

“Delivery. I’d like a gourmet chicken garlic, please.”

“What size?”

“Small.”

“We don’t have smalls.”

“What’s the smallest size you do have?”

“Large.”

“...Right. One of those, then.”

Mush

We started Luke on solid foods a couple of weeks ago. Everyone’s been asking how he’s doing with it. Eating has never been problematic for this child. I’m told it’s common for babies to have trouble figuring out that whole nursing thing. Not my kid. He wasn’t out in the big bad world for more than an hour before he was looking for a meal. “Hold still, Mom. Let me show you what you do with those things.”
