A New Hope

September 25, 2008 - 3:13pm -- swingbug

I’m hardly a business analyst, but I’m seeing a new trend popping up here, a new defense for small businesses fighting against the evil Empire.

Political Fiber

September 5, 2008 - 5:15pm -- swingbug

While checking my messages on a yarn crafter site that I frequent (read: am obsessed with), I found myself irked, and probably unjustly so, by another user. I got a message from a moderator asking to use a picture of an afghan I crocheted for the pattern’s description page. Fine. But the moderator's avatar that appears big and bold in my message screen? A big picture of McCain with "McCain for President 2008."

Yuck.

Fair Enough

August 18, 2008 - 1:21pm -- swingbug

Exhausted though we were when we arrived home from a 5 day vacation on Sunday, there was still more fun to be had. After a few hours of unloading the car, reloading the refrigerator, and lying comatose on the couch, we got up again and headed out to the county fair.

Yolo County is not remarkably grand or influential. We include four cities, in the technical sense, and sport a total population of 168,000. Aside from the university in Davis, the only thing that brings folks here is corn, rice, and tomatoes.

A Trip to the Moon on Gossamer Wings

May 10, 2008 - 2:32pm -- swingbug

I recently tried out a crochet pattern for a circlet of flowers that I picked up over at Anticraft. A fun little project, though you’ll have to forgive me if I didn’t initiate my new costume piece as the pattern recommends, dancing skyclad under the full moon in the shade of a hawthorne tree. I don’t know of any hawthorne trees around here and my neighbors think I’m weird enough already.

This Seems Like an Odd Place for a Yarn Shop

March 31, 2008 - 10:39am -- swingbug

I’ve been watching this post-apocalyptic sci-fi show – doesn’t matter which one, pick one – and the fiber enthusiast in me has a serious question. So here you are on a ship in space, fleeing for your life, no renewable resources, low on fuel, and scraping by with the barest necessities for life, and you’re prancing around in brightly colored frocks. That hat you’re wearing, for example, is clearly knitted. So where are the space sheep that are producing all this wool? Frack if I know.

Off the Hook

February 17, 2008 - 9:41am -- swingbug

Two crochet projects that I’ve finished just recently.

My Grandfather’s Afghan
391 squares!  It was a big project but I’m very proud of it.  The yarn was TLC acrylic and the pattern was the “Granny Square Afghan” from “10 - 20 - 30 Minutes to Learn Crochet” by Leisure Arts.
