Trailing

I spent a little time today traipsing through movie trailers for up and coming entertainment. There are some very promising films coming out in the blow-shit-up category.

Ian sent around the newest trailer for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Thank you, friend Ian. I have chills. Looks like July for that one.

I hate waiting.

I heard a totally unconfirmed rumor that the final book will be split into two movies. Best totally unconfirmed news I’ve heard. I could go confirm that. Or I could watch more trailers.

I watched another trailer for the new Star Trek movie. Could be bad-ass. Could be total rubbish. I have no proof of that, but I haven’t forgotten or forgiven Star Trek Nemesis, you see, so I’ll not get my hopes up. I will allow that it has some good potential (can you hear the “but” coming? wait for it...) But I must say that every time I see Spock pop on the screen I’m tempted to scream and hold my skull on. I’m not sure I can accept Sylar(1) as Spock. I keep wanting to whisper to Kirk, “Dude, save the cheerleader, save the world.” But come on, Shatner or no, if this guy is really James T. Kirk, does he need my instruction on how to “save” a cheerleader? Doubtful. Very doubtful. Moving on...

Not long ago, and not in a galaxy far, far away, a friend said to me, “Have you seen the trailer for that new movie that makes fun of Star Trek fans?”

“What? Trekkies? That’s way old.”

“No, wait. Not Star Trek. Star Wars.”

I resisted the urge to chide or tirade on vast differences of these two empires of fantastic entertainment. She meant no harm. There’s no need to go wishing the Q virus on anyone or anything drastic like that.

“What are you talking about?”

Well, my friends, she’s talking about Fan Boys. It looks retarded in the best way possible. It also looks like a total rip off of Buffy’s arch nemesi from Season 6 right down to the black van, but I’m willing to overlook it, in that we all know these guys personally from the archives of our lives. And if you’re drawing any comparisons that place me in that van, I’ll totally dice you up with my lightsaber. Not cool.

I don’t know I managed to miss that this movie existed in this space-time continuum – I’m a mom and I don’t get out much and that’s all the excuse I have for myself, I guess – but this one’s actually out in theaters right now. If I play my cards right, I just might be able to swing a babysitter and get out to see it this weekend. Boy, am I glad that I turned down that ticket to see Wicked on stage San Francisco. (Sorry, girls...)

Oh and I hear there’s some big movie award show on Sunday. Oscar something or other. I didn’t see any of them so whatever. They never nominate the good stuff...

1) I’m told by people in the know that my feelings on this matter may change by the time I get caught up to present day in season 3 of Heroes. I’d be there already if Netflix Instant Play wasn’t so damn buggy. Anyone else having buffer problems with the mac version of their streaming software? So not impressed.
