Here we are on Christmas Eve, and I’m pretty much ready. This week has been a parade of do-to lists, on which I have even written down tasks I had already completed just so I could put a check mark next to it.
To Do:
- Make To-Do List
The house is respectably clean. The laundry is done. The kitchen isn’t spotless, but it’s spottable.
Check, check, and check.
The gifts are bagged and tagged. The tinsel, the wrappings, the trimmings, the trappings and all that. Done.
Check.
The Christmas cards went out yesterday, so you’ll all be getting them sometime after Christmas, but before the New Year. In true fashion for this household, we are late but not despicably so.
Check.
I finished my Christmas knitting on Monday – a marathon of yarn that was ambitious but not insane. That’s a big check. I celebrated with friend in the afternoon. We got together to look over each other’s progress and tell each other how fabulously successful we are.
Everyone should have a friend like this.
Check.
The Christmas parties have been attended. The Christmas cookies are baking. I single-handedly ate 3/4 of a 1 lb. box of See’s assorted chocolates in 12 hours. Not sure I should admit that, in writing no less, but hey, it takes some extra calories to run around and get all this merry-making done. It wasn’t exactly on the list, but what the hell?
Check.
No ballet on the check list this week. Sigh. The studio shuts down for two weeks every Christmas and unfortunately so does every other studio within a reasonable radius. Saturday morning was the last hurrah for year. During the stretch break between barre and center, someone made a comment about Thursday’s class.
“There’s no class on Thursday. It’s Christmas.”
“Right. Who would come to class on Christmas anyway?”
Every hand in the room went up.
Right.
All I want for Christmas is a barre stretch. Sigh.
A friend and I got together on Monday night to console ourselves on the lack of studio time. Our intent was to eat chocolate and watch one episode of Angel. We watched four.
Check. Check. Check. Check.
So what’s left? Eat cookies? Make a fire? Read “Twas the Night Before Christmas”?
Oh yes, write blog.
Check.
