I Still Don't Know What I'm Going to be for Halloween

I've been busy lately. Busy enough that the to-do list would trail out the door and into the street, were it not digitally kept and maintained.

In the last couple of weeks, I hosted a 10-year-old birthday party, gave a talk, and took a business trip. I'm neck deep in a Spaceman Spiff halloween costume for the kid, and only a third of the way through studying all the propositions on the November ballot. And last week, my husband and I also learned how to remove and repair a broken window. (Let me sum up that one by saying that next year's birthday party will be at the roller rink.)

For the second year running, I've had a great idea for a Halloween costume for myself that never made it off the page. I have house paint stuck under my nails, random clumps of thread and fabric scraps trailing from the souls of my shoes, and waiting in the wings for November is a research project, a book I have to review, and an exam for which I need study.

Thank god for hockey; it provides me with two hours per week in which I am not afforded the opportunity to think. (This past Sunday it also provided me with three good-sized bruises, but I digress.)

Alright, so here it is, three days until All Hallows Eve, I don't know what I'm going to be, and it looks like rain. But I've got pumpkins, I've got candy, and I've got cobwebs. (All that time I didn't spend cleaning the house is totally paying off.) And by the time the 31st shows up, I'll have a kid suitably costumed to go out raiding with the other ghosts and goblins. We're making it work.
