I love this time of year. Here on my scrap of the west coast, it turned into fall exactly 24 hours early. (Which gave Dad and I a two-hour rain delay at the Oakland Colosseum last Saturday waiting for the ball game to start, but that's neither here nor there.)
Actually, it is relevant, because that's part of the whole thing. It's baseball playoffs and dried leaves skittering their way down the sidewalk and cool, breezy afternoons. In the break room at the office, a co-worker hung a big poster of jack o'lanterns and asked if anyone had any pumpkin recipes. Why, yes, as a matter of fact, I do.
Wind whistling under the door, extra blankets on the bed, dodging acorns on my lunchtime skate, scary stories to read, and suddenly I don't look completely crazy for making hot tea at 3 in the afternoon.
Dark mornings though? Not my favorite feature. Getting out of bed on time is not my superpower. And while we're on the topic of early mornings, why is it that every time Apple upgrades the iOS, the snooze button on the alarm clock app gets smaller and harder to hit? Evil plot, I think.
If I cared to jump into my time machine (read: search page) and check, I'd probably find that I do a blog on this topic about this time every year. That's okay. If I stopped noticing the change in the air and the light, or stopped finding it comment-worthy, that would concern me more.
Get outside and catch a little of the season, folks. The days are getting shorter already.

Thanks for the link back to the pumpkin page! Maybe, in addition to all of the above fall activities, I will find the desire to knit some warm things....

I always have the desire to knit warm things. Finishing them while it's still cold outside is the challenge. :-)
