Suffering Cats

There is some kind of cat party going on in yard. I don’t understand it. One night earlier this week, a cat was hollering outside. Shawn and I counted our fuzzballs and found them both, safe, whole, and accounted for. The howling continued. Shawn poked around outside looking for the source. It turned out to be a brown tabby who set up camp on our back door mat and refused to leave. I’m serious. I could look out the back door right now and odds are 50/50 that he’d be there. I half expect him to look up at me and say, “Nevermore!”

When he first showed up, collarless but obvious fed and cared for, I turned to my two cats. “Are you going to do something about this?” They looked at cat, looked at me, blinked, and went back to their food bowls. Sorry little ingrates. Shawn even took the hose to the cat once. No luck. He shall not be moved.

The next day, I see Fuzzy and Fuzzy Jr. hanging out in my driveway. The Fuzzies officially live down the street, but spend most of their leisure time in Jenny’s backyard. I think that Fuzzy Jr. was originally Fuzzy’s daughter, but now she’s his romantic interest. You know that section in Genesis that starts out Adam begat Seth who begat Enos and it goes on and on for pages? You could write a similar piece regarding the amount of kittens these two have conceived in Jenny’s backyard and then unleashed upon the neighborhood. They don’t tip-toe into my yard too often, though they are on reasonably friendly terms with Ben. (Not that friendly -- I get my cats fixed, thank you very much.) They’ve been in my yard most of this week, though.

Then another cat, a tuxedo like Meeko, though a little fatter and longer of hair, with whom I’m not familiar, showed up in the backyard. I’ve seen him around 3 or 4 times this week too.

What the heck is going on around here? It there some kitty kegger going on in my garage? Are the mice that live in my house fatter and stupider than the rest of the mice on the block? Is Meeko dealing ‘nip out of the driveway?

More importantly, does anyone have a really big dog I can borrow?
