Halloween Part II: Super Plan

November 12, 2013 - 9:23am -- swingbug

My son decided fairly early this year that he was going to be a superhero of his own description for Halloween. That description itself continued to evolve/mutate with super speed, along with the various accoutrements which spanned from crowns to dragon tails to super symbols that "look like fire in the shape of bacon" (direct quote, that), but the idea itself stuck true.

Halloween Part I: Not that Kind of Princess

At some point plowing through the fabric store a year ago or so on some specific and urgent mission, I came across a pattern for this dress on a $1.99 sale rack and was taken with it. Even though I had no earthy purpose for it, I threw it in my basket. Turns out it's a rip-off of some costume that the chick from Twilight wore in a horrible Snow White movie. (Cheryl and I later rented it; it really was horrible, but not quite horrible enough to be funny.)

While strolling through a cemetery on a romantic getaway last weekend, my folks happened upon a tombstone that reminded them of me. Specifically, my dad said, "Think you and Shawn might have gotten along with this couple had your paths crossed in the right time."

Halloween, Part I of 3: Raising the Dead

October 30, 2010 - 10:13pm -- swingbug

At some point in early June, I suddenly knew what I had to be for Halloween this year and I was bouncing with excitement to get going. This is early for me. Perhaps not in the scheming and initial design sense, but certainly for the execution phase. When that little serendipitous inspiration struck me, I was entrenched in sewing ballet costumes for a performance under the direction of another, and while the costume director was doing a great job, the perverse part of me was bristling to color outside the lines.
