Backstage

Dress rehearsal went well enough, which is to say that we got through the four seasons without floods, cyclones, droughts, or freezes.  If opening night goes so well, I’ll be happy.

I only dance in one season but there are many dancers who are in several.  My situation of relative calm has made me an ideal candidate for assisting with quick changes.  As spring is giving away to summer, I’m in the wings yanking flowered headpieces off heads and holding out the fiery adornments of summer.  My favorite moment last night was looking across the stage at a friend in the opposite wing who was gazing at her four-year-old on stage dancing with the spring queen.  Identical smiles, those two.

“You should have taken a picture of that,” another friend says.

“The studio head would have shot me.”

“True.”

“And then bludgeoned me to death and then resurrected me so she could kill me again.”

“True, true.”

So, on with the show.
