Finished Objects

Now in post-holiday mode, I can knit without the burden of a deadline. That’s exciting. I’ve been finishing up some projects on my to-do list.

Death Warmed Over

My brother-in-law gave me an amigurumi book called Creepy Cute for Christmas.  As a thank you, I sent him Death Warmed Over.  He sent me a picture of his new grim reaper nestled next to a pirate ship and a borg regeneration cell, just above a collection of Halo books.  If I haven’t mentioned, my brother is rad.

Mike Wazowski

I joined a Pixar-themed swap on Ravelry, the principal idea being that you make and/or purchase some yarn craft related items on a theme and send them to someone you don’t know.  Someone else sends you a similar package.  It’s like meatball surprise, only yarn instead of meatballs and by mail instead of dinner plates.  My swap partner was a Monsters Inc. fan so I made her a Mike Wazowski.  (It’s been a big amigurami month around here; what can I say?)  She also got some silk yarn and some Monsters Inc. buttons I found on Etsy.

Griffindor Gear

Shawn requested some Griffindor gear for playing with the kid in the snow.  Griffindor colors, he was quick to point out, are also 49er colors, making this ensemble very versatile.  The mittens and scarf pattern come from Charmed Knits, which I found at the local library.  You can check it out when I’m done.

Speaking of Harry Potter, my family had great fun taking online sorting tests on Christmas day.  It came as no surprise to me that I’m related to a bunch of Hufflepuffs with some Griffindor tendencies.  It’s a shame that Hufflepuff colors strongly resemble a swarm of honey bees or there would be scarfs and mittens all around.

Me and My Llama Scarf

And that’s all well and good, but who cares?  Let me show you what I have on the needles right now.  I fell in love with this glorious yarn at a LYS called The Golden Fleece in Santa Cruz.  It’s 45% llama, 35% silk, and 20% linen.  Touching it is something like laying down on feather pillows or eating perfectly buttered toast.  If there are clouds in heaven, they are knit from this yarn.  I didn’t buy it right away.  I’m not a stasher, you see.  I needed more data.  Just the right pattern.  When I went back for it a month later, it leapt off the shelf and into my arms and I promised it we’d never be apart again.  I’m telling you, when I finish this scarf (because this one is for me, you see) I’m never taking it off.  I’m going to wear it with my pajamas.
