And speaking of time travel, last night Shawn and I went to see Meet the Robinsons. It was our first real date since before the baby was born, and we not only went to see a kid’s movie, but chose one that opens with a scene of a mother abandoning her baby. One might question our decision.
That aside, we had a nice time getting out of the house and enjoyed the opportunity to sit next to each other for two interrupted hours and watch a movie from beginning to end. If you don’t want to hear anything about this movie until you’ve seen it for yourself, bail out now.
Personally I found it to be an excellent film. The story is engaging, the script is witty, and the animation is interesting. It’s randomly whacky in similar vein to The Emperor’s New Groove, only turned up a few notches. And Disney framed it well in a way that was both touching and poignant. It’s the best thing I’ve seen come out of Disney Feature Animation since Lilo and Stitch. It’s worth your 8 bucks.
This may sound cheesy, but I’m proud of Disney. (One has to wonder to what extent John Lasseter hanging around in the animation department aided the success of this little picture, but then I’m proud of them for that acquisition as well.) I used to expect a good film when I walked into the theater to see a Disney movie. I haven’t felt that way in a long time, though I keep going. I suppose it’s a little like the way 49ers fans will feel when they make it to the playoffs again. Disney’s my team. This was a touchdown.
It gives me hope for the future.
