Yesterday at 4:15 I was tying up a project for a co-worker and tying up my hair for ballet. The phone rings. It's one of my clients. A new client actually. "Hi. How are you? I was wondering how that map is coming along. I need to send it out tomorrow."
PANIC ATTACK: Map? Map! The map he told me he needed by Thursday or Friday? The map I totally forgot about and haven't even started yet? That map?! Ack! Ack! Ack!
This is what I thought. What I said was, "Oh yeah. It's almost done. It looks nice. I should have it for you tomorrow morning."
The client in question had called earlier in the week because he had seen some stuff I'd done for another firm and asked if I could make him a map. "Sure," I said. "I have some open time this week. Bring me your data." He did. On Tuesday. And we talked about what he needed and of course, when he needed it by, and apparently my brain totally took a vacation sometime shortly after that. While he's talking to me on the phone I'm kicking my own stupid supervisory butt for not remembering this earlier in the day when Lara said, "Gee, Shannon. I don't have anything to work on. Do you have anything I can do for you? No? Okay, I'll just call it a day then."
I looked at the clock. 4:20. I have to leave for ballet at 4:30. Crap! So, my leisurely project for my co-worker came home with me. After ballet, I sat up and finished that up so it could be off my plate the next day. Then Shawn and I got up at 5 am this morning so I could get here by 6 to start work on this fellow's map.
Fast forward. 10:00 am. Map is finished. Left message for client. Big sigh and big cup of chai in front of me.
Okay, deep breath and on to the next crisis. :-)
