Lyrical Interlude

"I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
'Cause these words are my diary screaming outloud
And I know that you'll use them however you want to"

A lyric to song that's getting played way too much on the radio right now. I don't even know who it's by and I'm not over the moon about it, in general. I like that little patch of it though.

I'm into song lyrics. I'll listen to a song that's not great musically if it's got good lyrics. I generally won't tolerate a decent song with stupid lyrics. For example, in high school, I was really into Dog's Eye View. Remember Dog's Eye View? Of course not. No one does. They weren't spectacular musicians, in my opinion. (I don't mean to rag on anybody. I mean, they were better musicians that I am, right?) They had a couple of good songs that made it big on the radio back in '96, and that's about it. Man, did they write good lyrics though. I still have the album and I still listen to it, but mostly for the words.

It makes me wonder how many of our musicians are really poets at heart that are reaching out to us in the only way that we'll listen anymore.
