Something to Crow About

Vote time.

I've got a few name suggestions for the magazine title. What do you guys think?

  1. Open Window
  2. Voyager
  3. Magpie
  4. The Yolo Crow

A couple of side notes on these. Voyager was suggested by an excellent friend. You see, the local newspaper is the Davis Enterprise, and since Davis already has an Enterprise, it ought to have a Voyager. And if you don't get that, don't feel bad. It means you're cooler than we are. You probably even had dates in highschool. Begin your voyage into geekdom here.

This area is full of magpies and crows. The crows are a bit of problem in Davis. They spend their days in the ag fields and descend upon the town at dusk. There is a particular shopping center on the west side of town where the trees look like they have leaves even in the winter from all the birds. I won't describe in detail what your car looks like if you're foolish enough to park your car in this lot after dark. Let's just say that when you go looking for your car, look for a white one, regardless of what color is was before you drove in.

The city has done everything to get rid of them short of recruiting local miscreants armed with bb guns. (The People's Republic of Davis doesn't like to admit that it has miscreants.) For awhile there was a horrible screeching sound that the city would blare out from strategically placed speakers sprinkled thoughout downtown right at dusk. It was supposed to impersonate some larger predatory bird to scare the crows away. These crows are right out of a Hitchcock movie; the ear-splitting sound couldn't even ruffle their feathers. Scared the crap of out visitors to the city though.

With all of that being said, my sick little mind is leaning towards "The Yolo Crow." What do you think? Email me your opinion.
